چکیده

Ursolic acid (UA) is the major active component of the loquat leaf extract (LLE) and several previous studies have indicated that UA may have the ability to prevent skeletal muscle atrophy. Therefore, we conducted a randomized, double-blind, and placebo-controlled study to investigate the effects of the LLE on muscle strength, muscle mass, muscle function, and metabolic markers in healthy adults; the safety of the compound was also evaluated. We examined the peak torque/body weight at 60°/s knee extension, handgrip strength, skeletal muscle mass, physical performance, and metabolic parameters at baseline, as well as after 4 and 12 weeks of intervention. Either 500 mg of LLE (50.94 mg of UA) or a placebo was administered to fifty-four healthy adults each day for 12 weeks; no differences in muscle strength, muscle mass, and physical performance were observed between the two groups. However, the right-handgrip strength of female subjects in the LLE group was found to be significantly better than that of subjects in the control group (P = 0.047). Further studies are required to determine the optimal dose and duration of LLE supplementation to confirm the first-stage study results for clinical application. ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier is NCT02401113.

Effect of Low-Level Laser Therapy on Muscle Strength and Endurance and Post-Exercise Recovery of Young Adult: A Double-Blind, Placebo-Controlled, Randomized Clinical Trial

Background. Recovery or post-exercise rehabilitation is an essential part of exercise training. Low-level Laser Therapy (LLLT) is a modality increasing interest for recovery because of having a conservative and non-aggressive method. LLLT also decreases the production of fatigue-related biomechanical markers, such as lactate, C-reactive protein (CRP), and Creatine kinase (CK). Objectives. To i...

Objective: Effect of resistance training on muscle mass increase, blood glucose control, hemoglobin (HbA1c) reduction, on type 2 diabetes (T2DM), has been approved. While injuries and delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS) may lead to some difficulties in diabetic patients to continue training exercise. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of glutamine supplementation (o.1 g /...

Influence of essential amino acids on muscle mass and muscle strength in patients with cerebral stroke during early rehabilitation: protocol and rationale of a randomized clinical trial (AMINO-Stroke Study)

BACKGROUND Patients with stroke are at a high risk for long-term handicap and disability. In the first weeks after stroke muscle wasting is observed frequently. Early post-stroke rehabilitation programs are directed to improve functional independence and physical performance. Supplementation with essential amino acids (EAAs) might prevent muscle wasting and improve rehabilitation outcome by aug...
